Our brain alone comprises 100 billion nerve cells that are constantly communicating with each other. Signalling takes place via electrical impulses on the one hand and via messenger substances, so-called neurotransmitters, on the other.

The first neurotransmitter was discovered in 1921 by the Austrian researcher Otto Loewi - acetylcholine. Today, science recognises many neurotransmitters and is also aware of their importance for the transmission of information from cell to cell.

Examples of important neurotransmitters include acetylcholine and glutamate. The latter can be converted into the neurotransmitter GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) in the body through enzymatic processes.

GABA became particularly important during the 1980s through the research work of the German professor Dr Hanns Möhler, and it is still the focus of scientific attention today. GABA 500 contains gamma-aminobutyric acid in a physiological dosage and thus provides a possibility of additional intake in the form of a high-quality micronutrient preparation.
